Premium Cotswold Lager

When I had my nice meal at The Royal Well Tavern alongside I had a bottle of Premium Cotswold Lager.

Light in colour, a very nice and refreshing lager that tasted great.

Wimp!

Shandy

Not sure why I bought ten bottles of shandy… but I did…

£1.89 seemed quite cheap….

Not that nice and too fizzy…

Why….

Theakston’s Lightfoot

Lightfoot

Mention Theakston’s and most people think of Old Peculier, of course it’s not the only beer they brew.

I have drunk Old Peculier, Best and XB before, but when I recently saw a bottle of Lightfoot, I hadn’t seen it before, so bought a bottle.

Lightfoot Bitter was created as a tribute to Lightfoot Brewery, Masham which we acquired in 1919. The label and pump clip depict the original Brewery site, here in Masham, at the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. This is a delicious and refreshing, golden ale – brewed in the time honoured Theakston fashion.

It’s light in colour and though the website describes the smell and taste as floral, this is no Golden Glory!

I really enjoyed it, very light and refreshing, an ideal beer for the summer.

Doombar

My first experience with this Cornish beer was in Somerset, I also enjoyed a few pints in Devon, more recently I enjoyed a bottle at home here in North Somerset. One day I might get to enjoy this Cornish beer in Cornwall itself.

Doombar

It’s a very nice bitter and very smooth, making it a refreshing and enjoyable beer. Glad to find it in bottles to making it easier to drink at home.

Birra Moretti

Lunch

Having enjoyed a recent lunch at Belle Italia I had a beer alongside it. I ordered a Birra Moretti and a very nice beer it was too. A a 4.6% abv pale lager. Very refreshing and a great accompaniment to the Italian food.

Fursty Ferret

A fine ale from the Badger Brewery.

Cheers

I was a bit wary after a while back buying Golden Glory, that was one weird beer with a “foral peach and melon aroma” though it smelt of a cheap old lady’s perfume! That was a ghastly beer.

So what of Fursty Ferret, originally brewed at the Gribble Inn, it became part of the Badger Brewery range when the Brewery bought the Gribble Inn in 1991. It’s a really nice refreshing bitter and very tasty. I will be getting it again.

Old Empire

Old Empire IPA

Old Empire is a very nice India Pale Ale. Despite the light colour it has a strong flavour. Though well flavoured it isn’t too heavy. I really enjoyed it and found it a great beer to drink whilst sitting down and having a chat.

Birra Moretti

As well as liking real ales I also do like Italian beers, especially when I am eating Italian food. I have always thought when eating a particular cuisine that you drink what would be drunk with that cuisine in that country. So when I was eating an Italian meal recently at a branch of Bella Italia I took the opportunity to have an Italian beer, this time I had a Birra Moretti.

Birra

This was a very nice Italian beer, full of flavour and perfect with the Italian food and Italian-esque atmosphere. It was stronger in flavour than some Italian lagers.

Peroni

I do like a lager now and again especially in the summer or early autumn. It’s not as though I don’t like a good real ale, but during the summer, a bottle of lager reminds me so much of my travels to France and Italy back in the 1990s.

One of my favourite bottled lagers is Peroni.

When I am at an Italian restaurant for lunch I often choose Peroni over a glass of wine. It has a distinctive taste and freshness and I really find it very refreshing.
